Transcript – Embracing Differences: Decoding Empathetic Body Language in a Multicultural World
Somebody said: Is empathetic body language cultural? Which culture is this from? Now, most of the sessions I’ve done have been in the West, but when I’ve done sessions, for example, with people from Asia, people from the Middle East, they have still talked about the power of empathy. So I think what you can do if you’re not from perhaps the Western culture and you have a local culture, it’s just really about thinking, what do people do when they’re listening attentively? How can you mirror the speaker’s body language so that they can see that you’re attuned to what they’re saying? Because what will happen is if you’re let’s say that somebody’s hunched up and you’re like this, there’s a mismatch right between your body language so that in and of itself will appear as though you’re not connected with them. So I hope that’s a little bit useful too.
