It has been a tough couple of years and employees in many sectors are frazzled, tired and feeling burned out. That’s why it was so good to see Henkel Beauty Care organise a week of activities to help energise and support their people. The Henkel ‘We Care For You’ week included sessions on topics such as mindfulness, digital detox strategies, yoga, and the gift of feedback.

Wrapping up the week on day 5, I was so happy to be invited to keynote on the topic of Empathy in the workplace. Participants joined the session from 21 different countries including Brazil, China, South Africa and Mexico, which was fantastic!

One question we discussed was how should we respond when we’re communicating with people who try to take advantage of our vulnerability. This is a fair concern. Fortunately, we’re seeing a real demand for sessions to help leaders transform company culture from command and control to one of curiosity, humility and care. Hopefully most workplaces will eventually transition to seeing vulnerability as a strength – and an opening for transparency, honesty and growth – rather than as a weakness!
