Leaders: do you really listen to your employees and teams?
Leaders: do you really listen to your employees and teams?
This week I spoke to 700 employees from a huge international organisation about inclusive communication in the workplace.
Many audience members asked for advice on what to do when you’re in a very hierarchical setup and your boss/management doesn’t listen.
▪️Some individuals shared feeling powerless to speak up.
▪️Others felt that even when they do make suggestions, their voices aren’t heard.
▪️A few even suggested that their bosses enjoyed bringing them down in public by minimising their ideas and contributions.
If you’re a leader whose teams aren’t free to express themselves, there can be a serious impact on innovation, retention, productivity, belonging and more.
This brief article (link in comments) suggests a few things you can do to turn the situation around and create more openness.
One of the suggestions is to make employee reviews ongoing.
